MELAKA: Another school in rural Melaka will close for a week after the mother of two SMK Simpang Bekoh students tested positive for Covid-19.

Bemban Assemblyman Datuk Dr. Wong Fort Pin said the high school in Jasin was asked to close for a week from Monday (October 19) to October 25.

He said the two students had been tested for swabs on Sunday (October 18).

Dr. Wong said that the brothers are in Form 3 and Form 5, respectively, at school.

He said the students’ mother is a pioneer and is believed to have contracted the virus while working.

“I will visit the school later in the afternoon to provide masks to the students. As an area assemblyman, I will provide my support as the case involves a nurse in a government clinic,” he said in an interview Monday.

Dr. Wong said there are 516 students and 80 teachers in the school.

He added that all of them will undergo swab tests.

The other two schools currently closed in rural Melaka are SMK Lubok China and Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Berembang at Masjid Tanah in Alor Gajah.

Both schools were ordered to close on October 15 after two students from the respective schools tested positive for Covid-19.
