PUTRAJAYA: Three clusters of factories in Selangor are among those that contributed to the slight increase in cases in the state on Wednesday (March 17).

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said one of the outbreaks, called the ‘Subang Dua’ group, had 153 confirmed cases as of March 16.

“The positive cases in this group were discovered from a screening exercise conducted on workers at a factory located at Jalan Subang 2 in Taman Perindustrian Subang.

“So far, 602 people have been tested and 153 have been confirmed positive for Covid-19,” said Dr. Noor Hisham in his daily press release on Covid-19.

Jalan Lada Sulah’s group in Shah Alam and Meranti Jaya’s group in Puchong were also detected from selective tests carried out on factory workers.

The former has 18 confirmed cases, while the latter has eight so far.

Selangor reported 499 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, representing 40.9% of the country’s 1,219 infections.

There were 12 new clusters classified by the Health Ministry on Wednesday, eight of them linked to workplaces.

Two other clusters in Johor and Sabah have been classified as community outbreaks, while another is linked to a detention center in Negri Sembilan.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that the Tembok Muhasabah group was discovered from an examination of detainees.

“A screening exercise conducted with detainees at a Jalan Kuala Klawang detention center in Jelebu found 49 confirmed cases.

“So far, 225 people have been screened,” he said.

An import group was detected among the crew of a Singapore dredge based in Muar, Johor.

Called the Andromeda group, about 44 people had to undergo screening tests after a crew member developed symptoms and tested positive on March 15.

So far, six cases of the group have been confirmed.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that the country now has 429 active clusters.
