SHAH ALAM (Bernama): All staff at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) Klang Hospital will be screened soon, following the recent increase in Covid-19 cases at the facility.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that the state health department is currently looking for the best mechanism for this purpose, in addition to implementing targeted screening tests to reduce the risk of transmission in the hospital.

“I am in discussions with the Selangor health department about the test method to be used for HTAR staff.

“We will screen all employees (at HTAR) because they are considered high risk,” he told reporters after handing in contributions along with Christmas celebrations here on Monday (December 21).

As of Sunday (December 20), there were 143 positive cases involving 62 healthcare workers and 81 patients at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Klang Hospital, while Serdang Hospital has 65 cases involving 37 employees and 28 patients.

In another development, Amirudin said that any application of the motion control order (MCO) to curb the increase in Covid-19 cases in Selangor would be decided by the National Security Council (MKN).

He said that the Klang district saw a daily increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases following the government’s decision to make mandatory screening of factory workers, especially foreign workers in the red zone.

“Although the number of cases has increased, the situation is still under control, since we have ruled that the workers must undergo an examination and the cost will be borne by the factory management.

“This is a valuable lesson learned after the Teratai Cluster incident,” he said. – Bernama
