KUCHING (Oct 25): A one-day active case detection (ACD) operation for the Covid-19 pandemic has been launched in Kampung Haji Baki near here since this morning.
Senior Vice Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is also chair of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), explained that the ACD was carried out because two groups had been detected there.
These included the Baki Cluster that was detected yesterday (October 24) which now comprises five cases, including the index case (Case 768) which was found positive on October 18.
“The first is a family with three victims and the second family has five victims. So in total, we have recorded eight positive cases here.
“The state Department of Health believes there is a possibility that the disease has spread to the community.
“That is why we are doing the ACD operation involving 100 health personnel under the direction of Dr. Majorie Trial Junting,” he said.
Health personnel are seen performing a swab test on one of the villagers who came forward.
Uggah, accompanied by the Minister of Housing and Local Government, the Director of the State Department of Health, Dr. Chin Zin Ming, and the Chairman of the Padawan Municipal Council, Lo Khere Cheng, visited the exchange center for the test of swabs in front of some stores.
“We are testing those from Block A of the Kampung with about 600 people.
“Those in Block B and Block C are encouraged to come voluntarily.
“For the sick and the immobilized elderly, the health personnel will visit them at home for the test. They are a very vulnerable group, ”he said.
Uggah also said that the ACD operation is in line with one of SDMC’s strategies for controlling dispersal, which is ‘detect and isolate’.
“We cannot wait for those infected to show symptoms just to get treatment. Probably by then the virus, like an underground fire of burning peat land, has spread even further in the community.
“We have conducted two ACD operations earlier this year at Uni Garden Housing Area in Kota Samarahan and at Kampung Tabuan Melayu in the city,” he explained.
He noted that these ACD operations had been very helpful and helpful to SDMC in controlling the spread.
“I take this opportunity to thank our health and council officials and staff, and the police for helping us.
“I am also very happy with the support provided by community leaders and the people themselves. The people, many of whom had turned in early for the test, ”he added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sim also urged everyone in the area to take the test.
“The public need not fear… there is no stigma. It is to protect themselves and their family members.
“For those in Block B and Block C, health personnel will also do random sampling, but they are highly encouraged to do the test.” he said.
