KUCHING (Oct 10): Nine new positive Covid-19 cases were reported in Sarawak today, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the state to 751, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced in a statement. .

Of the total, four of these new cases were people returning from high-risk areas, another four were detected as a result of a close contact examination of a previous positive Covid-19 case, and one was detected by an early detection test in a worker .

SDMC President Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the four cases detected in Kuching were security personnel who returned from Sabah after being stationed there for the Sabah elections. They left with other team members on September 25 and returned to Sarawak on September 28 through the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base in Kuching.

Upon arrival in Kuching, they were quarantined for 14 days in Pulapol and tested negative on the first test on September 28. His second exam on October 8 came back positive for the disease today (October 10). All were asymptomatic and were admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.

A new group, called the ‘Taman Putrajaya Cluster’ has also emerged in Bintulu, with the index case for this group involving Case 733, who was confirmed as Covid-19 positive on October 8 and had a history of travel to Perak and Kuala Lumpur. from September 24 to 27.

“The fifth case involves an Indonesian who underwent a medical examination before starting work in a private hospital on October 9 and tested positive for the virus the same day. The case was asymptomatic and then he was admitted to SGH for further treatment, ”Uggah said at a press conference in the former DUN building today.

“This case is being further investigated and close contact tracing is underway. Until the investigation is completed, this case is classified as a local broadcast, as the case did not register entry to the state. “

For the four cases in Bintulu, Uggah said they were close-contact tests for Case 733 that was detected on October 9 and that all new cases tested positive for the virus on the same day.

The first is an insurance company employee who had close contact with Case 733 and showed early symptoms on October 5.

The second and third are children from Case 733 who are still in school, and one is a local college student, living in the same house. One of them had a fever on October 8, while the other is asymptomatic.

The fourth case is a young relative from Case 733 who visited the house on October 1 and is currently asymptomatic.

All four were admitted to Bintulu Hospital for treatment and contact tracing is still ongoing, he said.

Meanwhile, today there was a recovery and discharge at SGH, bringing the total number of recoveries in the state to 685 or 91.21 percent of total cases.

“There are currently 47 patients treated and isolated in hospitals across the state, of which 28 are treated at SGH, eight at Miri Hospital, seven at Bintulu Hospital and four at Sibu Hospital,” he said. None are currently being treated in intensive care units.

Regarding the number of people under investigation (PUI), 23 new cases were reported today and three are still awaiting test results.

The death toll in the state remains unchanged at 19.
