PETALING JAYA: Malaysia reported 70 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday (May 11), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 6,726.
Chief Health Officer Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (photo) said that of the new cases, 31 were foreigners. There were 13 imported cases, while the rest were local broadcasts.
“There are currently 20 patients undergoing intensive care unit (ICU) treatment with seven on ventilator support,” he said in his daily Covid-19 briefing.
Dr. Noor Hisham said that 88 patients were discharged within the same 24-hour period, bringing the number of patients recovered to 5,113 since the outbreak began.
The country’s Covid-19 recovery rate is now 76% of the total number of positive cases.
There are currently 1,504 active cases under treatment in the country’s health centers.
There was one new death reported, bringing the number of deaths to 109.
The last fatality was a 63-year-old Malaysian man (case 6,657) who had a history of cancer and diabetes.
He was admitted to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on May 8 and died on May 10.
