PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia confirmed 660 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday (October 14), staying above the 500 daily case mark for the fourth consecutive day.
In his daily Covid-19 briefing from his home on Wednesday (October 14), Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that most of the cases were still from Sabah, with 429 infections. or 65%.
“This is due to the increase in Covid-19 detection activities that are being carried out in the state and the increase in samples that produce results.
Kedah has the second highest number of cases with 113 cases.
Dr Noor Hisham said 109 of Kedah’s cases were from the Tembok group, which involves Alor Setar Prison, Pokok Sena Prison and Sungai Petani Prison.
Meanwhile, Klang Valley states have 11.5% of the country’s cases, with Selangor registering 68 cases, Kuala Lumpur seven cases, and Putrajaya one.
All are local transmissions except six imported infections from Singapore (three cases), Indonesia (two) and the Philippines (one).
The Kencana cluster in Selangor is the only new cluster detected by the Ministry of Health.
Malaysia also discharged 233 patients, bringing the total recoveries from Covid-19 to 11,605 or a rate of 66.2%.
Active cases in the country are now 5,768 cases.
Altogether, the country’s total cases since the outbreak began in January is 17,540.
The number of people receiving treatment in intensive care units has reached 108, a record high. There are 35 patients who require respiratory assistance.
There were four deaths in the last 24 hours.
The number of deaths from Covid-19 in the country has risen to 167 cases, or 1.0% of all cases.
The four deaths are in Sabah: two in Sandakan and one in Kota Kinabalu and Lahad Datu.
The deceased are between 47 and 80 years old.
