PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 47 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (September 13), of which only two were imported, while the rest were local infections, the Health Ministry says.

This brings the total number of infections to 9,915 in Malaysia, said Tan Sri Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Dr Noor Hisham said that of the 45 local cases reported, 28 were Malaysian while 17 were foreign.

He said that of the local infections, 31 cases were from Sabah.

Of the number, 22 were from the Benteng group; four were detected in screening tests at a health clinic; two from a quarantine center; a health worker; a detainee at the Kudat District Police Station; and one case of influenza-like illness (ILI).

The remaining 14 cases were from Kedah, 13 from the Tawar group and one case from the Sungai group, Dr. Noor Hisham said.

Regarding the two imported cases, Dr. Noor Hisham said that they were foreigners from the Maldives and Morocco.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that nine people with Covid-19 were being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while four were on ventilators.

He also said that no new deaths were reported, thus keeping the death toll at 128 cases, or 1.29% of all cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said that Malaysia currently has 591 active cases and 9,196 cumulative cases that have recovered from Covid-19.
