Covid-19: 45 new cases, with 40 from the Benteng LD cluster in Sabah

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia confirmed 45 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (September 10), 40 of which come from the Benteng LD (Lahad Datu) group in Sabah.

This brings the group’s total cases, currently the largest and most active Covid-19 cluster in Malaysia, to a total of 170 cases.

At a press conference on Thursday, Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the 45 cases, 44 were local broadcasts and only one was an import case.

Of the 40 new cases from the Benteng ML group, 35 are detained, while six are relatives of prison staff.

All the new cases were detected in Tawau Prison.

In Kedah, there were four new cases, two of them related to the Telaga group and one related to the Sungai group.

Another case was detected at the Simpang Kuala clinic in the state, following an examination carried out on symptomatic individuals.

The only import case involves a Malaysian returning to the country from Brazil.

Meanwhile, 24 patients were discharged, meaning that the total recoveries is 9,167 or a rate of 95.2%.

The total number of active cases in the country has increased to 333 cases.

Together, the country’s total cases since the outbreak began in January is 9,628.

Currently, nine people are being treated in intensive care units, and five of them require respiratory assistance.

No deaths were reported, which means that the death toll from Covid-19 in the country remains at 128 or at a rate of 1.35%.
