Covid-19: 4,496 foreign workers tested, 39 tested positive on Thursday (March 11), says Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 39 foreign workers tested positive for Covid-19 after undergoing a mandatory test on Thursday (March 11), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Chief Minister (Security) said that a total of 4,496 foreign workers were examined.

“According to the Ministry of Human Resources, 608,093 foreign workers have already undergone screening examinations involving 31,682 employers.

“Of that number, 9,653 of them tested positive,” he said in a statement on Friday (March 12).

He said 1,520 clinics are involved in the evaluations.

On disinfection operations, Ismail Sabri said 77 operations involving 279 Fire and Rescue Department personnel and 51 fire trucks were carried out on Thursday.

“Since March 30, 2020, a total of 18,525 operations have been carried out in residential areas, flats, public places, supermarkets and government buildings.

“In mandatory quarantine, 801 people arrived in the country on Thursday and were quarantined.

“Since July 24, 2020, 1,442,424 people have returned and were placed in 76 hotels and 10 public training institutes, as well as private universities,” he said.

He also said that the Construction Industry Development Board conducted 28 checks at construction sites across the country.

“A total of 27 of them complied, while the rest were ordered to close immediately.

“Since April 20, 2020, there have been 16,129 checks involving 9,133 construction sites,” he said.

On daily needs, Ismail Sabri said that the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs has carried out 734 checks on 11 types of supplies involving 545 retailers, 158 wholesalers and 31 manufacturers.

“On Thursday, 1,854 special compliance checks were conducted at the facilities and seven non-compliance compounds were issued,” it said.
