Covid-19: 432 new cases, highest daily increase (updated)

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia confirmed 432 new Covid-19 infections on Monday (Oct 5), the highest daily increase since the pandemic hit the country.

These are 429 local transmissions and three imported cases.

This exceeds the 317 cases, which was the record set just two days ago on October 3, Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement Monday.

Kedah has the most new cases on Monday with 231 infections, followed by Sabah with 130.

Other states with new cases are Selangor (34), Kuala Lumpur (seven), Terengganu (five), Labuan (five), Perak (two), Putrajaya (two), Johor (two), Sarawak (one), Pahang ( one). ), Melaka (one), Negri Sembilan (one) and Kelantan (one).

Malaysia also discharged 57 patients, which means that the total recoveries is 10,340 or a rate of 80.7%.

The total number of active cases in the country has increased to 2,336 cases.

Together, the country’s total cases since the outbreak began in January is 12,813.

Currently, 32 people are being treated in intensive care units, and eight of them require respiratory assistance.

No deaths were reported, which means that the death toll from Covid-19 in the country remains at 136 or at a rate of 1.07%.

Furthermore, Dr. Noor Hisham confirmed that one of the attendees at the Covid-19 ministerial meeting in the Prime Minister’s Department was infected with the virus.

“The ministry wishes to report that a person who attended a meeting in the Prime Minister’s Department on October 3 tested positive for Covid-19.

“At that time, the individual was not showing any symptoms. The individual has been transferred to the hospital for isolation, observation and treatment in accordance with the existing protocol for positive Covid-19 cases, “he said.

Dr. Noor Hisham said the ministry has started contact tracing work, as well as symptom detection and swab testing.

“The close contacts who had been identified have been placed under a home surveillance order (HSO) for 14 days from the day of exposure to the contact,” he said.

Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Minister Datuk Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri confirmed that he tested positive for Covid-19.

The minister confirmed it on his Facebook page on Monday.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that ministerial meeting attendees who identify themselves as close contacts of Zulkifli have also been placed at the HSO for 14 days starting October 3.

However, Dr. Noor Hisham said that those who attended the meeting but are not considered close contacts should not be quarantined at home.

Instead, they are asked to monitor their own health at home for 14 days using the “home assessment tool” in the MySejahtera app.

“They have been advised to seek treatment at a nearby health center if they develop symptoms during that period of self-management,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

Most of the cabinet ministers attended the October 3 meeting.
