KOTA KINABALU: A total of 396 passengers who flew on two AirAsia Kuala Lumpur-Tawau flights were told to be retested for Covid-19 immediately after six passengers tested positive for the disease.
Dr. Suzalinna Sulaiman, Tawau Area 2 Health Officer, urged passengers on AirAsia flight AK5742 on May 1 and AK5740 on May 4 to undergo the test immediately.
“According to records, 156 passengers were on flight AK5742 where four people were found positive for Covid-19, while a total of 246 passengers were on AK5740 where two people were positive,” he added.
Dr. Suzalinna said that all passengers had undergone a first examination upon arrival and were asked to undergo home quarantine.
“However, after six of them tested positive recently, we want all passengers to undergo a second test,” he added.
She said that as of 11 am on Wednesday (May 13), 39 people, including seven university students, had completed their second round of Covid-19 tests at the Tawau Health Clinic in Jalan Chong Thien Vun.
He also urged everyone to be ordered to quarantine the home to strictly observe it and practice distancing themselves with family members, including staying in separate rooms and using separate bathrooms.
In Lahad Datu, health officials are conducting Covid-19 screening tests among Taman Jaya residents.
However, Lahad Datu District Police Chief Asst Nasri Mansor denied that the housing area was under a forced movement control order.
He said 315 samples were taken from 681 residents during the health operation in the area that started at 7 am.
“The residential area has not been closed. The highways were closed to one lane to allow health personnel to carry out resident checks on 120 houses, “he said, adding that the health examination ended at 11 am.
The examination is believed to have been carried out after a Covid-19 case was detected among a resident who had returned on a flight from Kuala Lumpur.
