PETALING JAYA: At least 23 local and foreign employees of the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort have tested positive for Covid-19.
Petaling Jaya OCPD communication assistant Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said 11 positive cases were identified on Sunday (October 11).
“We have just received information from the Ministry of Health that another 12 tested positive on Monday (October 12) morning.
“This makes 23 positive cases on the grounds of the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort workers ‘shelter,” he told reporters outside the workers’ shelter on Monday.
He said police personnel were also dispatched to the complex Sunday after it was discovered that it was still in operation.
“The Health Ministry issued an order to close the golf course on Saturday (October 10).
“Officials from the Health Ministry on Sunday presented a report at the Damansara police station that it was still in operation and a team of police officers sent there confirmed it.
He said an investigative document has been opened under Section 269 of the Penal Code and Section 22 (B) of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act for negligently committing any act that could spread infection of a life-threatening disease. .
On the improved movement control (MCO) order at the workers’ shelter, ACP Nik Ezanee said there were 20 people on the ground to enforce the order.
“A total of 597 staff members, both local and foreign, have been selected for screening. We have been told that testing will begin on Wednesday,” he said.
When asked about the implementation of a conditional MCO in Petaling Jaya, he said that they would make certain recommendations based on the police assessment of the situation to higher authorities on Monday (October 12) evening.
“For now, everyone in Petaling Jaya should slow down their movement.
“Once you’re done with work, go home. Try to postpone the meetings and ceremonies for now,” he said.
