Covid-19: 2,068 new cases today, three deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: The daily number of new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia remained at four digits with 2,068 cases registered today, bringing the total number of cases in the country to date to 115,078.

Tan Sri Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said 23,433 cases were still active.

He said only two of today’s new cases were from abroad.

“Selangor reported the highest number of daily new cases at 776, with 425 coming from groups and examinations performed on close contacts of patients with Covid-19, which is being actively carried out in the field. This is followed by Kuala Lumpur, which recorded 457 cases, while Sabah recorded 254 cases.

“18 of the reported cases are related to groups in dungeons, immigrant detention warehouses and prisons that involve the Jalan Harapan Penitentiary Group (13 cases), Tembok Gajah Group (4) and Pagar Siput Group (one),” he said today in a statement. .

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said that there were three deaths today, all related to Malaysian nationals.

The first involved a 69-year-old man from Negeri Sembilan with diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease and dyslipidemia.

“The second case of death involved a 94-year-old man from Selangor who had diabetes, high blood pressure, dementia and bronchiectasis.

“The third case of death involved a 58-year-old woman from Kuala Lumpur who had diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and kidney disease,” he said.

According to Dr. Noor Hisham, 2,230 patients had recovered today, bringing the cumulative number of fully recovered cases to 91,171 cases.

He added that 126 cases are currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, of which 54 required respiratory support. – Called
