Covid-19: 2,068 new cases, three deaths raise the death toll to 474

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,068 more Covid-19 infections on Friday (January 1) on New Years Day, bringing the country’s total confirmed cases to 115,078.

Three people also died from the coronavirus, bringing Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll to 474 cases.

The country discharged 2,230 Covid-19 patients, meaning that a total of 91,171 people have recovered.

The number of people with active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia has also risen to 23,433.

Currently, 126 patients are in intensive care, and 54 require respiratory assistance.

In a statement, Health Director General Tan Sri, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Photo) He said there were two imported cases while the rest were local broadcasts.

He said Selangor recorded a new record for daily cases with a total of 776 cases.

It is followed by Kuala Lumpur with a total of 457 cases and Sabah (254).

Dr. Noor Hisham also said that of the three deaths recorded on Friday, one of the deceased was a 69-year-old man from Negri Sembilan who died at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital.

The man has a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic kidney problems and dyslipidemia, said Dr. Noor Hisham.

The second deceased patient was a 94-year-old man from Selangor who died at Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor.

According to Dr. Noor Hisham, the elderly man has a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, dementia, and bronchiectasis.

The third death involved a 58-year-old woman from Kuala Lumpur, who also died at Sungai Buloh Hospital.
