KUCHING (December 31): Sarawak today registered two new imported cases of Covid-19 in Miri, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 1,117.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), case 1116 is a Malaysian working as an assistant pilot in a rural air service in Sabah, Labuan and Sarawak, who attended a scheduled Covid-19 screening while working in a sector essential services. . His last test on December 14 was negative.
He sought treatment and a Covid-19 test on December 29 at a private hospital after suffering a sore throat the day before. He tested positive for the virus on December 30.
According to a preliminary investigation, he had an overnight return trip between Kota Kinabalu and Miri on December 21, 24 and 26 before showing symptoms on December 28.
He had visited various restaurants and shopping malls around Miri on December 28 and flew from Miri to Lawas, Ba’Kelalan and Bario on December 30. He had also visited several restaurants at Miri airport and a restaurant in Miri city before receiving further treatment on December 30.
“The case is classified as an imported case as it was infected in a high risk area which is in Sabah. The Miri Division Health Office is actively conducting detailed contact and movement tracing for the case, ”SDMC said in a statement today.
Case 1117 is a Sarawak man who returned from Kuala Lumpur via Kuala Lumpur International Airport on December 27.
He worked as a technician in Johor since January before moving to Penang as a temporary security guard from December 21-24. On December 25, he returned to KL and spent the night at Tasik Bandar Selatan before returning to Miri on December 27.
Upon arrival at Miri airport, he was quarantined and tested for Covid-19 on December 29 and tested positive for the virus on December 31.
He was asymptomatic and was sent to Miri Hospital for further treatment. This case is classified as an imported case as it was infected while in Johor or Penang. Active follow-up of close and social contacts is taking place.
Meanwhile, SDMC also reported that a case was allowed to be discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) today, bringing the total number of recoveries in the state to 1,069 or 95.7 percent of total cases.
“There are 27 patients who are still being treated and isolated, of whom 11 are receiving treatment at SGH, seven at Miri Hospital, five at Bintulu Hospital and four at Sibu Hospital. None are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or need respiratory assistance. “
No new deaths have been reported and the death toll in the state remains unchanged at 19.
On the number of people under investigation (PUI), SDMC said eight new cases were reported and none pending test results.
Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Lawas remained yellow zones with a total of five local broadcasts reported during the last 14 days, two of them in Sibu and one in Kuching, Bintulu and Lawas. The remaining 36 districts remain as green areas.
