Covid-19: 17 new cases, one victim, bringing death toll to 126

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 17 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Aug 30), bringing the total number of infections to 9,334 cases.

Health Ministry Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the 17 new cases, 15 were imported cases involving 11 Malaysians and four non-Malaysians.

These were infections that occurred abroad in India, Saudi Arabia and Japan.

Meanwhile, the two locally transmitted cases involved two Malaysians who were close contacts of Covid-19 patients in Selangor and Kedah.

There has been one more death from Covid-19, bringing the death toll to 126.

“Death number 126 is case 9,290, a 75-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart disease.

“He had no travel history. He began showing symptoms such as coughing and shortness of breath on August 7 and was admitted to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Kedah for pneumonia.

“He was discharged from the hospital on August 18, but suffered a cough and breathing problems on August 21 and received treatment on August 24 at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.

“The screening test showed it to be Covid-19 positive. His health deteriorated and he died on August 29 at 5.10 pm, ”said Dr. Noor Hisham.

It also said that 10 patients had recovered, with a total of 9,048 patients, or 96.9% of the total number of cases discharged since the Covid-19 outbreak began.

Currently there are 160 active cases under treatment in health facilities in the country, with seven patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and five of them on ventilatory support.
