Covid-19: 1,247 new cases, three deaths

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,247 more Covid-19 infections on Friday (December 25) with three new deaths.

So far, the country has registered a total of 101,565 confirmed cases.

Of the new infections reported, only two were imported, while the rest were local transmissions.

Currently, the number of people with active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia is 18,576.

Tan Sri Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that a total of 1,441 patients had been discharged, bringing the number of people who have recovered from the virus to 82,540 (81, 3%).

He said 375 of the 491 cases in Selangor were from current groups and close contact detection.

Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor posted the largest increase of the day with 461 cases or 37% of the total.

“Of the total, 309 cases (67%) are from active Covid-19 clusters and close contacts made on screen,” he said.

It is followed by Sabah with a total of 225 cases (18%) and Johor with a total of 205 cases (16.4%).

He also noted that a total of 221 cases (16.9%) reported were from prison and immigration warehouses.
