PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia confirmed 100 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (September 8), with 62 cases coming from the Benteng Lahad Datu (LD) group in Sabah.
This is by far the largest one-day increase during the recovery motion control (MCO) order period, topping the 62 cases on Monday (September 7) in one day.
Of the 62 new cases in Benteng’s ML group, 32 are foreign, while 30 are Malaysian.
In total, the cluster has 128 confirmed cases so far.
The Sungai group in Kedah also saw an increase with 23 new cases in Kedah (22 cases) and Perlis (one).
At a press conference on Tuesday (September 8), Health Director-General Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the 100 cases, 85 were local broadcasts, while 15 were imported cases.
Import cases are arrivals from India (11 cases), Indonesia (two), Pakistan (one) and the Philippines (one).
Altogether, Malaysia has detected 9,559 cases since the outbreak began in January, and 12 patients were discharged on Tuesday.
This means that the total number of recoveries is 9,136 or a rate of 95.6%, while the total number of active cases in the country now stands at 295 cases.
Seven people have been admitted to intensive care units and four of them required respiratory assistance.
No deaths were reported, which means that the death toll from Covid-19 in the country remains at 128 or at a rate of 1.34%.
