Covid-19: 1 new positive case registered in Sarawak today, total in 698

KUCHING (Aug 29): Sarawak registered a new case of the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) today, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 698.

In a statement, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported that case 698 was a locally transmitted case involving a 48-year-old local woman. The case was detected through an rT-PCR swab filter for Covid-19 on August 28, performed as part of the preoperative screening.

Lab test results found that nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs tested positive for Covid-19 on August 29.

The case showed symptoms of Covid-19 since August 14.

Contact tracing has started and the investigation is ongoing. She has been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital.

SDMC also reported that today there were no recovery cases and discharges. To date, 662 or 94.84% of all cases have been recovered and discharged.

“A total of 17 cases continue to be treated in the isolation rooms of the hospitals. Ten receive treatment at Bintulu Hospital, five at Sarawak General Hospital, one at Sibu Hospital, and one at Miri Hospital.

“As of today, two new persons under investigation (PUI) were reported,” he said.

The cumulative total of PUI is 9,449 to date.

As for people under surveillance (PUS), there are 57 people who have checked into hotels for their mandatory quarantine on Saturday. This brings the current PUS total to 820 people at 14 hotels statewide.

To date, those who have completed their quarantine period number 22,786.

SDMC also said that the Alam Cluster in Bintulu is still active, with seven cases.

With no reported deaths, the death toll in the state remains at 19 or 2.72 percent of all cases.
