KUCHING (October 5): Sarawak registered a new imported Covid-19 case that was registered today in the Kuching district, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 718, the State Disaster Management Committee said. (SDMC).
He said in a statement that Case 718 involved a local man who had just returned from Kuwait.
“The case, who was working in Kuwait, returned to Malaysia via Dubai International Airport, United Arab Emirates, in the early morning of October 1 and arrived in Kuala Lumpur in the evening before boarding a flight to Kuching in the evening. the same day.
“When the case was at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 1 (KLIA-1), it was tested for Covid-19 using the RTK antigen test which came back negative. He then continued his journey departing from KLIA-2 to Kuching International Airport (KIA), ”he said.
The committee said that upon arrival at KIA in the early morning of October 2, the case was immediately placed in mandatory 14-day quarantine at a hotel quarantine center.
“On October 3, which was the second day of the quarantine, the case was examined by RT-PCR test that was positive the next day,” he said, noting that the case was asymptomatic.
He said the case was referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment the same day.
He also said that this case has been categorized as an imported case in view of the fact that the patient became infected while abroad and that more investigations and follow-up of all contacts with this patient are still being carried out.
Meanwhile, SDMC said a recovered Covid-19 patient was allowed to be discharged from SGH today, bringing the total number of recoveries in the state to 683 or 95.13 percent of total cases.
“There are currently 16 patients being treated at hospitals across the state, of which eight are being treated at SGH, five at Miri Hospital, two at Sibu Hospital and one at Bintulu Hospital,” he added.
On the number of persons under investigation (PUI), SDMC said that today two new cases were registered with one case pending the result of the laboratory test.
Since the first positive Covid-19 case was reported on March 13, the state has recorded a total of 19 deaths.
Kuching, Sibu and Lawas districts remain as yellow zones after three locally infected cases in Lawas and one local case each in Kuching and Sibu that was reported in the last 14 days.
