Covid-19: 1 new group identified in Kuching district

KUCHING (Oct 25): The Sarawak Health Department today identified a new Covid-19 group in Kuching, dubbed the Seladah Group.

According to a statement from the State Disaster Management Committee, it said the index case for the group was Case 771, which the patient was detected as positive on October 23.

“A total of 17 close contacts from Case 771 had been tested and two of them tested positive on October 23 and another four tested positive today,” he said, bringing the total number of positive cases in this group to seven patients, including the index case.

Of the six positive patients tracked from this group, the committee said five were close relatives and one was a client of Case 771.

“Currently, the State Department of Health is aggressively conducting investigations and contact tracing for the cluster to prevent the virus from spreading further.”

Apart from that, the committee noted that there are currently four active Covid-19 groups in the state, namely the Bah Arnab Group in Kuching, the Putra Group in Bintulu, the Baki Group and the Seladah Group.

“A total of 72 individuals have been tested for Covid-19 for the Bah Arnab Cluster and four of them were detected positive during the first Covid-19 test and another eight positive cases were detected through a second test on the tenth day of the quarantine period. “

The remaining 60 people tested negative for Covid-19, including 28 who were tested a second time on day 10 of the quarantine period.

“The proportion of people identified as positive in the group is 16.67%. As of October 25 at 12 pm, four of the patients had recovered and were discharged from the hospital and another eight were still receiving treatments in the isolation room, ”the statement said.

The committee said the patients in the Bah Arnab group were in stable condition and no deaths have been reported so far.

Turning to the Putra Cluster in Bintulu, he said that five positive cases had been identified and a total of 190 people had been examined.

“Approximately 2.63 percent of the people screened for the Putra Cluster tested positive and of the 185 people who tested negative, 80 of them tested negative again by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction tests ( rT-PCR) on the 10th day of quarantine.

As of October 25 at 12 pm, he said that all Putra Cluster patients had recovered and were discharged from the hospital.

“However, it should be noted that a positive case is currently being recorded in Selangor that had been withdrawn from the cluster according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health, as it was discovered that the patient had contracted the virus from other sources,” the statement said. .

For the Baki group, the committee said three new cases were detected today and a total of eight people tested positive in the group.

He said 96 individuals were screened because of the group and only 8.33 percent or eight patients were found to have contracted the virus.

“As of October 25 at 12 pm today, all Baki Cluster patients are still receiving treatment in the hospital’s isolation room and are in stable condition. So far no deaths have been reported. “

The committee noted that 691 other people were also tested at 12 p.m. today as part of active tracing efforts by the state health department in Kampung Haji Baki and all samples were still pending for laboratory results.

In addition, he said that four new cases of Covid-19 were detected in the Seladah group and that so far seven patients in total had tested positive in the group.

“Of the 18 people tested, seven tested positive, four tested negative, and the remaining seven people were still awaiting laboratory results.”

The committee said 38.88 percent of all people tested for the group were positive for Covid-19 and that all patients are currently in stable condition as of 12 p.m. today.

In another matter, he said a patient had recovered from the virus and was discharged today from Sarawak General Hospital, with a total of 728 patients having recovered or 91.46 percent of all cases in the state.

For those still receiving treatments, 43 of the patients were being treated at Sarawak General Hospital and seven at Miri Hospital.

“Currently, no patient is being treated in intensive care units and no death is reported. The death toll in the state is still 19 or 2.39 percent. “

A total of 18 new people under investigation were reported today and four were still awaiting laboratory results for Covid-19.

The committee also emphasized that the Kuching district remained a yellow zone with 26 cases of local transmission reported in the last 14 days, while the remaining 39 districts in Sarawak were green zones.
