Covid-19: 1 new cluster detected in Kuching district

KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department today identified a new cluster of Covid-19 that was detected in the Kuching district here.

Nicknamed the ‘Baki Group’, the case rate for the group involves Case 768 which tested positive on October 18.

“A total of 68 close contacts of the case were examined. One of the contacts, case 770, tested positive on October 22 and three other cases: cases 774, 775 and 776 were detected on October 23.

“This brings the total case in the group was five cases, including the index case,” said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee in a statement today.

He said that the group currently only involves close family members, but that the Sarawak Health Department is conducting further investigation and detection of other contacts with the group.

“Active Case Detection (ACD) for the group will begin on October 25 and those who were contacted by the Ministry of Health (MoH) are urged to cooperate for the sake of public safety and well-being,” added SDMC.

As of October 24, all the cases involved in the group were receiving treatment in the hospital’s isolation wards and were reportedly stable. No deaths were recorded in this group.

The addition of the new ‘Baki Group’ brings the total count of active groups in the state to three.

Today no new cases were detected in the Bah Arnab cluster in Kuching and Putra in Bintulu.
