KUCHING (December 12): Sarawak today registered a new case of imported Covid-19 in Kuching, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in a statement.

The new case brought the total number of positive cases in the state to 1,075.

The case involves a local Sarawak woman who has returned from Kota Kinabalu. She is a student from Universiti Malaysia Sabah who returned on December 11 through Kuching International Airport.

The case was examined for Covid-19 in Sabah using the RTK antigen test on December 9 as a condition for obtaining permission to travel outside of Sabah.

However, RTK Antigen testing at the time was not supposed to be reactive to Covid-19, and the case was allowed to return to Sarawak.

Upon arriving at Kuching International Airport, she underwent a Covid-19 check and was admitted to a quarantine facility for the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

The case’s rT-PCR test result came back positive for Covid-19 on December 12.

The case did not present any signs or symptoms of infection and has been admitted to the isolation ward of Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, SDMC has declared the end of the Jalan Abell Cluster in Kuching after no new cases were recorded in a period of 28 days since the last positive case was detected. The cases involved in this cluster were 15 people, including the index case.

There is no new group either, with groups currently active in the state numbered at three, namely Besi Cluster, Greenhill Cluster, and Wisma Saberkas Cluster. They are all in Kuching.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported that today there were no recovery and discharge cases.

“To date, 1,043 or 97.02 percent of all cases have been recovered and discharged.

“A total of 13 cases continue to be treated in the isolation rooms of the hospitals. Of that, 11 are in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), one in Miri Hospital and one in Bintulu ”, he said.

10 new persons under investigation (PUI) have been reported for the day, and one is still awaiting the lab result, bringing the cumulative total of PUIs to 10,944 to date.

As for people under surveillance (PUS), there are 538 people who have checked into hotels for their mandatory quarantine on Saturday. This brings the current total PUS to 4,419 people at 41 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centers across the state.

To date, those who have completed their quarantine period number 38,444.

With no reported deaths, the death toll in the state stands at 19 or 1.77 percent of all cases.
