IPOH: The Court of Sessions has set two days in January next year for the trial of YouTuber S. Pavithra’s husband, M. Sugu, for possession of a sickle while in Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here.
He was charged under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act.
Judge Norashima Khalid set January 11 and 12 for trial.
Earlier, Deputy Prosecutor Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi informed the court that the prosecution had rejected Sugu’s first letter of representation to review the charge of carrying a sickle.
Sugu’s lawyer, Syahrul Nizam, told the court that the defense would soon submit a second letter of representation to the prosecutor’s office in Putrajaya.
He then asked the court to set trial dates for next year, while important documents are prepared for the second representation.
Liyana also requested that a mention date be set before the start of the trial.
“If a mention date is set first, we will also be able to get the latest application update for the second representation,” he added.
Norashima set December 7 for the next mention.
On September 17, Sugu received a discharge that does not amount to an acquittal by the Court of Sessions itself on a charge of assaulting his wife in July.
Pavithra had submitted a letter to the prosecution in early September not to pursue the case, as she had decided to drop the charges against her husband.
However, the accusation against Sugu for carrying a sickle stood.
Sugu, 29, a former farm worker, is alleged to have assaulted Pavithra, 28, with a cell phone and sickle in the hospital parking lot on the night of July 21, causing injuries to her lips, left cheek and right arm. Sugu was also accused of carrying a sickle at the same place and date.
