KOTA KINABALU: A couple believed to have committed suicide shortly after sending their only son to his grandmother’s house in Luyang, near here, was found on Friday (December 18).
The bodies of the couple, aged 46 and 37, respectively, were discovered around 9:10 p.m. on Friday.
Habibi Majinji, assistant commander for Kota Kinabalu OCPD, said that before they were found dead, neighbors had noticed a foul stench coming from the house and alerted the police.
He said that a team of police officers had gone to check and from outside a window of the house, he had seen the couple lying on the floor.
“We had to enlist the help of firefighters to open the closed doors,” he said:
ACP Habibi said initial investigations found that the couple had been dead for at least three days before their bodies were discovered.
He said they also learned that the couple had a 16-year-old son who had been sent to his nearby grandmother’s home before the incident.
“We are still investigating the cause of the incident,” he said.
ACP Habibi said they believe the couple committed suicide based on some evidence found and that so far there were no signs of foul play.
“This case has been classified under a sudden death report,” he said.
