Cops paralyze drug syndicate and seize drugs worth RM880k

BUTTERWORTH: Police have paralyzed a drug syndicate with the arrest of two people and the seizure of drugs worth RM880,000 in a three-day operation that began on Monday (September 21).

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) Senior Deputy Director (Operations / Intelligence) Com. senior assistant Lucas Aket He said both suspects were 27 and 33 years old.

They were arrested in a joint operation by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) with the NCID state team and the General Operations Force (PGA) in North Seberang Prai on two separate occasions.

“The 27-year-old was arrested at 9.45am on Monday by the NCID and the PGA team after his vehicle was stopped at the Sungai Dua toll plaza.

“He was suspected of being involved in the ganja distribution.

“After his arrest, the police located a Daihatsu Gran Max in Butterworth and after checks were carried out the vehicle was found to contain ganja worth RM880,000.

“Yesterday (September 23), the Penang NCID team arrested a 33-year-old man for being involved in the distribution of drugs in Butterworth.

“Drugs weighing 345.4 kg they were believed to be ganja.

“Three vehicles worth RM140,600 were also seized,” he said.

He said both suspects tested positive for drugs.

“The first suspect will be in preventive detention until October 1 and a request for preventive detention was submitted for the second suspect for five days until next Monday (September 28) for investigations under Section 117 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

“The case is investigated under Section 39 (B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries a mandatory death penalty if convicted,” he added.
