“During the March 8 incident, three suspects tried to rob four people inside a car and fired five shots at the victims around 8:30 pm.

He added that the police had deployed a special task force under the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the incident.

“On September 10, the team caught seven members of Gang 21, aged between 23 and 44, in some places around Iskandar Puteri.

“Two of them were charged under Section 3 of the Firearms (Heavier Penalties) Act of 1971 which carries a death sentence, while another of the seven, a 36-year-old man, was detained under the Crime Prevention Act of 1959 (Little), “he said.

Comm Ayob also reported that Sarjit also had nine prior counts on his criminal history related to drugs, armed robbery, gambling, kidnapping and rioting.

He said members of Gang 21 were known for their involvement in violent crimes such as murder with a weapon.

“This group is active in Iskandar Puteri and Johor Baru. They have been active since 2016 and are involved in four gun murder cases, two attempted murder cases.

“In our registry, there are about 90 members in the group and 22 of them have been arrested. Ten of them were detained under the Security Crimes (Special Measures) Law (Sosma) of 2012 and five of them under Poca ”, he added.
