ALOR SETAR: The naming of a mini stadium in Kuala Nerang near Padang Terap, which generated controversy recently, was not made according to the procedures established by the state government.

Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the matter was only discussed at the local government level and was not raised at the state executive council meeting for approval.

“The name of all roads, parks, locations and stadiums should be discussed at the local government level and then brought to the exco state meeting for approval,” he told reporters after chairing the exco state meeting here today.

He was asked to comment on the name of the Mini Ffira Mikah stadium in Kuala Nerang, allegedly the name of Padang Terap district official Hakim Ariff Md Noor spelled backwards, which went viral on social media recently.

The state government later ordered that the stadium’s name be changed to resolve the controversy.

When asked if action would be taken against the district official, Sanusi said the matter had been left to the secretary of state.

“New names (for the stadium) have been suggested at the exco meeting for approval.

“I don’t think I would use the same name because I would not agree with that name if asked,” he said.
