The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) said the video did not reflect the actual situation at the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Center in Serdang.

KUALA LUMPUR: A viral video showing congestion at the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Center at Malaysia’s Serdang Agricultural Exhibition Park (MAEPS) does not reflect the actual situation, according to authorities.

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) clarified that the video did not show the general picture where patients are staying, adding that the clip did not provide any information either.

“The situation in the video showing the congested center is confusing.

“What is shown in the video is a normal situation during the daily discharge process,” said Nadma spokeswoman Nur Daliza Dohat.

She said the center has 8,000 beds and could accommodate 2,000 more when the need arises.

“At midnight on January 8, there were 2,863 patients, which means there were still 5,137 unoccupied beds,” he said.

Nur Daliza said that although there were no partitions in the room, the physical distancing of Covid-19 patients was carried out according to prescribed standard procedures.

She said the center was not partitioned as workers were needed to monitor patients effectively, adding that there are currently 1,170 workers from various agencies on duty.

MAEPS was reactivated to house asymptomatic Covid-19 patients last month.
