SHAH ALAM: The opposition bloc in Selangor will only support the budget presented by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari conditionally, says its boss Rizam Ismail (Photo).

In a statement distributed to the state legislature on Monday (November 2), the head of the opposition (BN-Sungai Air Tawar) said that they would only partially support Amirudin’s budget if it benefited the people of Selangor.

“We also reject any program that does not directly benefit people, especially during the post-Covid-19 pandemic,” Rizam said.

According to Rizam, the 2021 budget should focus more on efforts to restore economic stability to the state.

“Attention should also be paid to helping people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the state government budget did not include many new and fresh initiatives or incentives to help the people of Selangor cope with difficult times,” said.

Rizam added that most of the announcements made during the budget presentation were simply to improve programs and policies that already existed or programs that overlapped with those carried out by the federal government.

Rizam also said that now is not the time for state government to be frugal.

“The state government should not be afraid to spend, including the use of its reserves. But at the same time, it is also not the time for the state government to spend indiscriminately to implement programs that do not benefit or benefit the people of this state.” “Rizam said.

There are 15 opposition assembly members and 41 government representatives in the Selangor state assembly.
