KOTA BHARU: The government considers the issue of compounding standard operating procedure (SOP) violations to prevent Covid-19 infection resolved, and enforcement teams have been reminded to issue subpoenas only as a last resort, said Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan. (Photo).
The minister of the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) said that, for example, in a situation where many people did not respect the SOP, law enforcement officers would first give advice and warnings.
“If they still refused to comply, then subpoenas would be issued because the law must be enforced,” he told reporters after presenting tablets to school children in the Kota Bharu parliamentary constituency here today.
He said new guidelines had been issued on all three crime categories, with the different amounts for the detailed compound.
“Where there is law, fines and penalties are needed. If there is still confusion on this issue, I would urge all community leaders to explain to the rakyat to clarify things, ”he added.
On Wednesday, Takiyuddin said the Cabinet had agreed to set the guidelines on the value of compounds and discounts for various crimes, following complaints about compounds of up to RM10,000 for individuals and RM50,000 for companies.
They include a 50 percent or 25 percent discount offer to individuals or businesses that settle their compounds within a specified period.
