COMMENT | A week has passed since Slim’s by-elections in which all eyes were on this semi-rural headquarters near the Selangor-Perak border.

Starting from the cycle of partial elections, the natural thing that will happen is that the sleepy town returns to its “forgotten state” after two weeks of intense courtship on the part of the interested parties.

But there are many towns and villages across the country that deserve and need more long-term care, not just a brief display of affection and interest.

In fact, Slim was given the title of “ghost town” by an opposition leader who criticized BN’s failure to develop the area.

It sounds condescending but having been at Slim since the nomination process began in mid-August, this writer cannot deny the fact that Slim is a bit behind even compared to other nearby towns like Tanjung Malim, Behrang, Sungkai, and Bidor.

That said, the people at Slim are proud of who they are and where they are from.
