Datuk Aidi IsmailKUCHING (November 8): Police will set up barricades at eight locations around Kuching district following the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) which takes effect this midnight.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said that roadblocks would be carried out to monitor the movement of the public in and out of the Kuching district during the CMCO period from tomorrow to November 22 in a effort to stop the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
It added that some 192 staff members from the Royal Malaysian Police and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) would be involved in controlling the barricades in the Kuching district during the CMCO period.
“As before, members of the public must obtain a police permit (from the nearest police station) before traveling in and out of the Kuching district, but only for emergencies,” he said.
Aidi emphasized that for those in essential services and workers who need to go to work, employers should give them a letter confirming that they were required to go to work or else their work passes would be sufficient.
“My advice is for the public to stay home if they don’t have urgent business outside,” he said.
On Saturday, the chair of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, announced that CMCO would be implemented from tomorrow until November 22 in view of the increase in Covid-19 cases in the district. from Kuching.
