KUALA LUMPUR: The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was implemented in all but three Peninsular Malaysia states due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in the states and a much bolder and stricter approach should be taken before make the situation worse.
Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said the decision was made after a record 1,755 cases, the highest number in a single day reported in Malaysia on November 6.
“On this basis, the Ministry of Health immediately carried out a risk assessment and found that there was a significant increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases and the infection rate in the states,” it said in a written response. at the Dewan Rakyat today. .
He said this in response to a question from Wong Shu Qi (PH-Kluang) on the rationale for the implementation of the CMCO in seven states that began yesterday during the Ministers’ Question Time session.
The government had decided to implement CMCO in all peninsular states except Perlis, Kelantan, and Pahang for four weeks from November 9 to December 6.
Mohd Redzuan said that after the decision, the standard operating procedures (SOPs) established for CMCO areas would be tightened, especially those related to social activities, even in controlled areas such as prisons, dungeons and temporary detention centers.
He said that with the implementation of the CMCO SOPs, permission for interstate travel must be obtained.
“Interstate movement is restricted, except for economic and labor activities, with the establishment of barricades on all state lines beginning at 12:01 pm on November 9. The Malaysian Police and Armed Forces will ensure that standard operating procedures for social activities are strictly adhered to, “he said.
Earlier, Dewan Rayat’s Vice President Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said reported that the Ministers’ Question Time for a round of three questions is limited to five minutes instead of the usual 30 minutes and responses would be given in writing.Called
