Claims by 11 Melaka Hospital Staff Infected with Covid-19 Are Not True, Says State Department of Health

MELAKA (Bernama): The Melaka Health Department has denied claims on social media on Tuesday (October 20) that 11 Melaka Hospital staff were infected with Covid-19 and quarantined at the hospital.

Its director, Datuk, Dr. Ismail Ali, said that only eight members of the Melaka Hospital medical staff tested positive for Covid-19, and that all of them were receiving treatment at the hospital.

He said the close contacts of the eight staff members had also been examined and they were currently quarantined at home rather than in the hospital.

“Services at Melaka Hospital have not been affected and continue to be in strict compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“A total of 30 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated at Melaka Hospital, which is a referral hospital for Covid-19 cases in the state,” he said in a statement here Tuesday night.

He said that all units at the hospital were currently serving through appointments only, and the public was reminded to always adhere to the SOP while there.

Earlier Tuesday, a message circulating on WhatsApp claimed that there was a group involving 11 staff members, nurses, doctors in the hospital and room 1-1 had been turned into a quarantine room for staff.

Nearly 30 employees of the Melaka Hospital Emergency and Trauma Department were also alleged to be infected with the disease. – Bernama
