PETALING JAYA: Transport Minister Datuk Seri, Dr. Wee Ka Siong, issued a police report on a WhatsApp message claiming to expose corruption scandals in Malaysia.

“As soon as I received the WhatsApp message, I immediately went to the Cheras police station to file a complaint.

“I want the police to investigate this false accusation that is circulating on WhatsApp lately,” he posted on his Facebook page on Sunday (December 27).

Dr Wee added that a police report is necessary as the message was directed at multiple government agencies, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The WhatsApp message, titled “Conspiracy and Corruption Scandal in Malaysia”, accused the Ministry of Transport of being involved in a fuel union that covers coastal areas.

“As Minister of Transportation, I will abide by the MACC investigation process into a senior Marine Department officer and several others involved in obtaining certain exemptions to use ‘single hull, single bottom’ and / or ‘single hull, double hull’ vessels fund ‘to transport heavy fuel without the approval of the minister.

“It has long been the practice of the International Maritime Organization to allow only the use of ‘double hull and double bottom’ vessels to carry heavy fuels. The Department of the Navy even published a notice for this policy in 2015, ”said Dr. Wee.

The WhatsApp message claimed to be from a certain “Muhammad Fauzan Jamil”.

On December 24, MACC said that it discovered through its investigations that Fauzan’s name and MyKad were used incorrectly to write the WhatsApp message.

“The message is false, as well as the email used. After the matter, he (Fauzan) will file a police report, ”the MACC said in a statement.
