KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR had full autonomy to negotiate with the Warisan Plus coalition on the allocation of seats, says Datuk Christina Liew (Photo).

The Sabah PKR president was responding to criticism that they were under the control of the national party leaders.

“At every step we take, we consult the general secretary and the party president because we are a national party.

“When it comes to state interests, they will refer it to us because we are in charge of Sabah,” Liew said during a press conference held at the PKR headquarters in Penampang on Friday (September 11).

During the press conference, Liew affirmed her leadership as chair of the state party, saying that it was she who signed a statement declaring that PKR would contest seven seats in the upcoming state elections, which is half of what she demanded during the negotiations.

“I was the one who issued the statement yesterday (September 10). It was signed by me, the President of Sabah PKR. We confirmed seven seats, ”he said.

Liew said that now that the seat assignments had been worked out, he would meet with division leaders across the state to plan his campaign strategy.

Liew also distributed letters of endorsement to his candidates during the event.

Sabah PKR Youth Chief Raymond Ahuar was selected to compete in the Sook constituency and Liew will defend his seat in Api-Api.

Ahuar was abruptly fired as Liew’s political secretary last February.

The other electoral districts in which PKR will compete are Matunggong, Tempasuk, Tamparuli, Inanam and Klias.
