Famous Pandian Stores actress Chithra, affectionately known as Chithu to her friends and fans, apparently died by hanging in the bathroom of a star hotel she was staying at near Nazrethpet in Chennai. Her husband Hemanth Kumar had said that she returned from a shoot after midnight on December 8 and went for a bath, but did not return for a long time and then her body was found hanging.
Chithra’s body was kept at her residence in Kotturpuram to pay tribute for a few hours and was then taken to the Besant Nagar crematorium where her mortal remains were cremated. Her Pandian Stores co-stars and many other friends from the TV industry paid tribute to her and said goodbye with tears in their eyes, and everyone’s heartbreak is that the life of such a joyful and loving person has been cruelly cut short.
Controversies arose that there were bruises on Chithra’s face in the form of rubbing nails and that her friends and colleagues suspected foul play. The 29-year-old actress’s mother had accused Hemanth Kumar of murdering her daughter.
While an RDO investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of death, the post-mortem report concluded that it was a suicide and the investigation is underway to find out what or who instigated her to take her own life.
