Spokesman Zhao Lijian’s remarks came after the Taiwan authorities’ foreign affairs department said on Monday that mainland China signed a confidential Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with WHO in 2005 on matters related to the region’s engagement. from Taiwan in WHO activities.

It is no secret about the memorandum of understanding signed by the Chinese government and the WHO in 2005, Zhao said at a routine press conference, adding that relevant information could be obtained online.

There is only one China in the world, and the Taiwan region is an inalienable part of China’s territory, Zhao emphasized, noting that China does not need to sign a memorandum of understanding with any international organization to “return Taiwan to China.”

According to the memorandum of understanding signed by China and the WHO, it is a simple process for technical experts from the Taiwan region to participate in WHO technical activities under the One China principle, the spokesperson said.

He noted that 16 batches of 24 medical and health experts from the Taiwan region have participated in WHO technical activities since 2019.
