PETALING JAYA: The immigration department says 1,368 undocumented immigrants, including 98 children, were arrested yesterday in a raid on the Selayang wholesale market.
Of these, 790 were from Myanmar, followed by Indonesians (421), Bangladeshis (78), Indians (54) and Pakistanis (six).
Director General of Immigration Khairul Dzaimee Daud said they were taken to the Federal Territories Immigration Department for processing.
“The crimes committed include not possessing identification documents, staying longer and possessing false documents,” he said in a statement today.
He said detainees would be investigated under various laws, including the Immigration Law and the Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act of 2007.
“They will be deported to their country of origin after finishing their sentences and will be blacklisted so that they will not enter the country again.”
Khairul added that those arrested were among the 7,551 inspected.
All of them tested negative for Covid-19.
