PETALING JAYA: “Whole chicken” samples taken from the Pedas poultry processing factory, Negeri Sembilan, where several workers were infected with Covid-19, tested negative for the virus.

The Department of Veterinary Services said the tests were carried out after health authorities confirmed that several factory workers had tested positive for Covid-19.

“The tests to detect the Covid-19 virus were carried out using the rt-PCR method (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction).

“Results obtained on May 9 showed that all samples were negative for the virus,” the veterinary department said in a statement.

On May 8, the Ministry of Health announced that several workers at the poultry processing factory in Pedas had been infected and ordered the factory to close operations from May 7 to 20.

According to the veterinary department, the factory received the “Veterinary Health Brand (VHM) certification since 2008.”

“We also wish to report that through scientific studies conducted by various international agencies and institutions, including the University of Macao and the Paris-based World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), it has been shown that cows, goats, pigs and chickens do not spread the Covid-19 virus to humans, “their statement read.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reported on April 7 that it was highly unlikely that people would purchase Covid-19 from food and food packaging. .

The WHO and FAO also claimed that the coronavirus could not multiply in food.

The United States-based University of Georgia published an article on March 23 claiming that the Covid-19 virus was not associated with poultry or poultry products.

The veterinary department said that people do not need to worry about eating poultry.
