ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have reminded the public not to just think about financial gain from renting their homes.

Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief, ACP, Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, said this is because there have been cases where landlords did not know anything about the background or activities carried out by their tenants to the point where they did not know that his residence had been used for criminal activities.

He said this was demonstrated once again through the exposition of a union conducting online gambling when police raided a rented house in Taman Bukit Indah, here around 1pm yesterday.

“In this case, the union used the rented house as a gambling call center to get daily transactions of around RM6,000 from 20 to 30 players.”

“The union, which we believe had just started operations, employed seven locals between the ages of 18 and 25. They were all arrested ”.

“In addition, a total of 181 computers believed to have been used to promote online gambling were seized, including four computers, seven mobile phones, a notebook with notes on various gambling games, 13 bank cards, a modem and three calculators. ” ” he said.

Dzulkhairi said that all of the suspects had no criminal records and that further investigations would be conducted pursuant to Section 4 (1) (g) of the Common Gambling Houses Act 1953, while the owner would be interviewed soon.

“So, homeowners, please check the backgrounds and activities of your tenants. Don’t let your tenants misuse their homes for illegal activities, ”he said. – Called
