MELAKA: The challenges in eliminating the Covid-19 pandemic did not hamper efforts to empower the public sector, which is one of the government’s main agendas to ensure an efficient, transparent and people-friendly service system, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pix).

The Prime Minister said that the responsibility of civil servants now is to make the new norm a culture so that public service is delivered effectively to the target group while increasing their productivity.

He said that at the government level, it was important that more initiatives be implemented to improve integrity and governance, such as through efforts to combat corruption to ensure the efficiency and transparency of the administration.

“As local authorities are among the front lines that are often exposed to corruption, efforts to combat this crime must remain an important agenda that must be widely implemented among their staff.

“This is so that we can create a culture of work with integrity without compromising any code of values ​​and ethics,” he said while virtually officiating the 27th Triennial General Meeting of the Employees of Amalgamated National Union Local Authorities (ANULAE) at the International Trade Center from Melaka. (MITC) here today.

Also present were the president of ANULAE Peninsular Malaysia, Datuk Azih Muda, and the president of the Congress of the Public and Civil Service Employees Union (Cuepacs), Adnan Mat.

In his 10-minute video speech, Muhyiddin also called on all local authorities and related agencies to go to the field more frequently to observe and better understand the current situation in their areas, as well as to investigate the issues facing his staff who are facing meets regularly with the public to solve their problems.

He also appreciated ANULAE’s efforts to work closely with CUEPACS to address issues among its members, especially public officials, in order to ensure their well-being.

“This general meeting is an opportunity for all members of ANULAE to discuss and express their views and opinions on issues related to their well-being. I hope that we can all work together to ensure that the rights and well-being of all public officials can be protected and preserved in the best possible way.

“I also hope that ANULAE will continue to play its role as the eyes and ears of the government in the local community with the cooperation of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and its agencies, including the local community,” he said.
