CG’s Malaysian company Lemon Sky denies allegations that staff worked overtime without pay

PETALING JAYA: Local computer graphics company Lemon Sky Studios has denied allegations that it made employees work overtime without pay to complete work for reputable companies based abroad.

“The allegations made against Lemon Sky Studios regarding overtime pay are factual and legally inaccurate. This position applies to all Lemon Sky Studios employees (including former employees),” the Selangor-based company said in a statement. communicated to LifestyleTech.

Founded in 2006, Lemon Sky is an art outsourcing studio with over 300 creative talents. His client list includes Naughty Dog (the creator of hit The last of us Y Unexplored), Blizzard Entertainment (World of warcraft, Supervision), Disney and Nickelodeon.

The statement was issued after a UK-based channel posted a YouTube video claiming that former employees, who were not named, were forced to work for more than 12 hours, sometimes without compensation, for complete game development work.

The channel went so far as to claim that former employees have seen their colleagues cry at work due to stress.

The video was made to highlight that major game publishers outsourced time-consuming development work to Asian-based companies in an attempt to minimize costs.

The channel said it had contacted Lemon Sky for comment, but received no comment.

Lemon Sky said it will comply with all Malaysian labor laws regarding working hours and contractual terms and conditions of employment with employees.

“Consequently, we are surprised that such allegations are directed at Lemon Sky,” he said.

He added that he will now take appropriate action regarding the allegations.

“This will include a process to obtain feedback from all of our employees regarding their individual concerns,” he said.

The company said it takes the well-being and mental health of employees seriously, adding that its staff members have access to recreational facilities and a space to prioritize mental health.
