Veteran journalist A Kadir Jasin wants a parliamentary disciplinary committee to investigate the case of Vice Ministers Abdul Rahim Bakri and Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

PETALING JAYA: Veteran journalist A Kadir Jasin has called for the two deputy ministers involved in the controversy over Sabahan student Veveonah Mosibin to be censored by a parliamentary disciplinary committee.

This comes after Universiti Malaysia Sabah President Masidi Manjun confirmed that Veveonah had taken the exams in June, refuting earlier claims by Deputy Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri and Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

Kadir said an apology from the two deputy ministers would not be enough, adding that they should be fired from their positions instead.

“But I am not sure that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin considers his actions serious or dares to take action against these representatives of Umno.

“If this is the attitude of adults, especially those of the Perikatan Nasional parties, then it is likely that young people have their own party and movement so that their voting power is not wasted,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Veveonah was thrust into the limelight after posting a video on her YouTube channel three months ago about spending 24 hours in a tree in the jungle to get the best internet connection to take her exams online.

Last week, Zahidi accused Veveonah of being a YouTuber and faking his online test to get views for his video channel, although he later apologized to Veveonah and said he had received “inaccurate information” on the matter.

However, Rahim, in a Facebook post two days ago, said that Veveonah lives in the city and that his family no longer had a house in the kampung, where he claimed to have climbed a tree to sit for the exam.

Her post accusing Veveonah of deliberately creating drama to seek attention and publicity sparked an uproar among netizens, prompting Rahim to remove her.
