KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has urged Hindus to celebrate Deepavali with joy tomorrow by complying with stipulated procedures as the country struggles to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his Deepavali message, Muhyiddin invited all Malaysians to respect and appreciate the diversity that exists in the country by sharing the joy of the celebration.

“Malaysians are lucky because our country comprises multicultural and multi-religious communities, each with its own culture, tradition and customs. This diversity is a source of strength for us as a plural, peaceful, harmonious and united country ”, he said.

“We are currently facing several difficult challenges. Let us work together, united by a resilient spirit and persevere for a brighter future for all, ”he said.

He also reminded Hindus to celebrate the festival of lights without shaking hands or gathering in large groups and practicing physical distancing.

“The celebration of Deepavali this year is slightly different, as it comes at a time when the country is facing the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of recently registered daily cases is quite high and the government has had to enforce the conditional movement control order to control and stop the spread of the virus in our communities, ”he said.
