RYAN GIGGS warned Edinson Cavani that he will have to start working to be a great success for Manchester United.
The 33-year-old Uruguayan striker will move to Old Trafford in the next 24 hours with a free transfer by signing a two-year contract worth £ 200,000 a week.
But United legend Giggs says Cavani, who was released by Paris Saint-Germain in June, will have little time to catch up with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.
Giggs said: “Cavani will have no problem with the size of the club. Needless to say, he is a world star. I think he has the experience to handle that.
“Eyes will be on him immediately and if he comes he will have to start running because there will be a lot of pressure.”
“I think United need a center forward. They needed that target man to look at, score the goals and make a difference. Hopefully he can.”
Cavani scored 200 goals to become PSG’s top scorer.
Giggs knows first-hand the star quality of the striker after facing him in the 2018 China Cup as Wales coach.
But the 46-year-old hopes Cavani won’t end up like United’s three previous South Americans, Radamel Falcao, Angel di Maria and Alexis Sánchez, who were all failures.
Giggs told Talksport: “My second game was against Uruguay and Cavani scored. I was really impressed with him, his pace of work and his quality. It’s how fast he goes to bed.
“We have had South Americans who have not really come to do it. Falcao, di María, Sánchez, Cavani with their pace of work, one would expect it to have an impact.”
