PETALING JAYA: Carlsberg Malaysia has pledged RM1 million through its “Celebrate Prosperity, Clap Tomorrow” food aid campaign. It has also extended another RM1 million through its Carlsberg-Huazong Education Fund to disadvantaged Malaysians facing today’s challenges.

“We understand that many Malaysians are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the regrettable floods in various states,” said Carlsberg Malaysia Managing Director Stefano Clini.

“As we hold out hope for the new year, we are sensitive to current sentiments and have launched Carlsberg’s ‘Celebrate Prosperity, Greetings for Tomorrow’ food aid campaign.

“We hope that with one million ringgit worth of staples for 2,000 families whose livelihoods have been affected, recipients can rejoice while keeping the celebrations subdued.

Carlsberg has joined forces with Sun, Star Foundation, Yayasan Nanyang Press, The Borneo Post and See Hua Daily News to reach 2,000 disadvantaged Malaysians, regardless of race and creed.

Those affected by the pandemic can apply through the respective media foundations or corporations.

“It is at times like this that we must show compassion and help those who urgently need help.” Sun said managing editor Eddie Hoo.

“Carlsberg’s move to alleviate some of the difficulties facing the B40 group is truly commendable. We hope that other major corporations that are in a position to act in a similar way can give back to society by helping disadvantaged Malaysians. “

The President of the Star Foundation and Star Media Group, Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, thanked Carlsberg for initiating the project and invited the Star Foundation and the non-profit organization MyKasih Foundation to be part of the noble cause.

“From our media interactions with Malaysians, we realize that many are trying to adjust to the new normal, but it is often the vulnerable who are left behind with little means to survive.”

“We are grateful to Carlsberg for working with us offering RM200,000 in aid to 306 families in Pahang affected by the floods. We are also accepting applications from 94 vulnerable families in West Malaysia, ”said Yayasan Nanyang Press General Manager Khor Yuyin.
