OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has confirmed that he will be leaving the company for good via a post on the OnePlus community forum. A few days ago, it was speculated that he had left the company, especially when he fell silent after the launch of the OnePlus Nord.

In his farewell message, Carl thanked Pete Lau for giving him the opportunity despite not having a college degree. He shared that he joined the company when he was 24 years old and that he had learned a lot, including presenting a product on stage and managing a team.

He added that during his tenure at OnePlus, the company has been his singular focus and everything else had to take a backseat. Carl did not reveal where he is going next, but said that he will take some time off to relax and catch up with his family and friends.

His departure from OnePlus came as a huge surprise, as he is often seen as the face of the brand. During his tenure, the OnePlus 2 was the first product to launch in virtual reality, while OnePlus Nord was said to be the first device to launch in a full augmented reality experience.

Prior to OnePlus, Carl had briefly worked at Nokia in 2010 before joining Meizu in 2011. The following year, he joined Oppo as international markets manager and eventually founded OnePlus together with Pete Lau.

At the moment, OnePlus is led by CEO Pete Lau, who also has the role of overseeing other sister brands in the group, including Oppo and Realme.
